President Yoweri Museveni has urged Ugandans to seize opportunities presented by various development programs to enter the monetary economy. He stressed the importance of investing in sectors such as commercial agriculture, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), services, and manufacturing.

The President highlighted the government’s substantial investment of Shs1.6 trillion in the Uganda Development Bank (UDB). This funding has reportedly enabled numerous farmers and manufacturers to undertake significant projects, leading to economic revitalization in their local communities.

Museveni noted that existing initiatives, like the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga, provide low-cost capital. He encouraged legislators to educate their constituents about these programs and support households with arable land in accessing the necessary financing to foster rural transformation.

He further elaborated on the government’s focus on wealth creation within the agricultural sector through activities like dairy, coffee, and tea farming. These efforts are supported by the prevailing peace, law and order, and improved infrastructure, including ongoing railway modernization and planned oil pipelines, which will shift heavy cargo transport from roads.

The President also pointed to the need for expanding Uganda’s export markets, suggesting collaboration with populous nations like China and India. He reaffirmed the Pan-African agenda as a means to foster continental economic integration and enhance the strategic security of Africa, creating broader avenues for wealth creation for Ugandans.

Museveni also announced that the government intends to present 38 Bills, policy frameworks, reports, and statutory instruments to Parliament in the upcoming financial year, aimed at strengthening governance and improving service delivery. He ended with a firm statement against non-performers in leadership, emphasizing that positions are for service, not personal gain.
