UAE Imposes Travel Ban on Uganda Over Ebola Concerns

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has implemented a temporary ban on travelers and suspended the issuance of new visas for individuals originating from Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and South Sudan. This move is a proactive measure to bolster national preparedness and prevent the potential spread of the Ebola virus.

The directive, which took effect on Saturday, June 6, 2026, means that all new visas, including tourist visas, will not be issued to nationals of these three countries. UAE authorities emphasized that the restrictions are part of ongoing efforts to monitor and respond to global health developments.

Travelers arriving directly from Uganda, DRC, or South Sudan, as well as those who have transited through these nations, will be denied entry into the UAE. An exception is made for individuals who can prove they have spent a minimum of 21 days outside the affected countries before their arrival, which is the maximum incubation period for Ebola.

However, the UAE has assured that transit flights and cargo operations to and from these countries will continue without interruption. The emergency crisis and disaster management authority stated that restrictions will be continually assessed and adjusted in collaboration with international partners.

Meanwhile, Uganda’s Ministry of Health reported a cumulative total of 19 confirmed Ebola cases as of the same date, including 14 imported cases and five local transmissions. While 13 patients remain under medical care, four have recovered, and two imported cases resulted in fatalities. The ministry maintains that the situation in Uganda is under control and reassures the public of the country’s safety.
