Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu, widely known as Chairman Nyanzi, has expressed deep dismay over recent media reports suggesting he is poised to become a State witness against his National Unity Platform (NUP) colleagues. He vehemently denies these allegations, stating he has never been interviewed or interrogated regarding the case concerning unlawful military drills.
Nyanzi asserts that these claims are designed to tarnish his reputation and sow confusion within the party and among the public, especially as he is actively pursuing a petition against the declared winner of the Kawempe South parliamentary seat, Madina Nsereko. He alleges that the Electoral Commission manipulated results in the Nsereko’s favor by omitting results from 47 polling stations and falsifying Declaration of Results (DR) forms, thereby disenfranchising over 32,000 voters.
According to Nyanzi, the accusations of betrayal are a deliberate diversion, a ‘red herring’ intended to destabilize his election petition. He argues that these claims aim to undermine his focus and vigilance in pursuing justice for what he believes was a stolen victory, highlighting his own abduction and torture in relation to the same allegations.
Despite these challenges, Nyanzi, who serves as NUP’s Secretary for International Relations, maintains his commitment to the party’s struggle. He recounts his foundational role in mobilizing for the ‘People Power’ movement and supporting Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) as the presidential candidate.
Addressing accusations of soliciting bribes from NUP ticket aspirants, Nyanzi denies any involvement, emphasizing his clean record and lack of participation in vetting committees. He points to a party-initiated commission of inquiry into corruption that reported no findings against him, suggesting the accusations are based on social media misinformation.
Nyanzi concludes by stating he will not be used as a tool of injustice and refuses to appear in court for what he deems a politically motivated persecution, reaffirming his dedication to truth and his comrades. “My stand is priceless,” he declared. “I cannot go against my comrades.”
