A domestic dispute turned deadly over the weekend when Charles Faustine Okonye, 38, succumbed to injuries sustained in a fight at his in-laws’ residence in Pallisa District.
Okonye had reportedly gone to his in-laws’ home to mend issues with his wife, Rose Apio, who had returned to her parents following a domestic disagreement. He was allocated a room for the night.
However, the situation escalated dramatically when an unidentified man, allegedly Apio’s lover, burst into the room while the couple was asleep. A violent confrontation ensued, with the fight spilling both inside and outside the house, resulting in significant injuries to Okonye.
According to police, neighbours and family members intervened upon hearing the commotion. Okonye was initially taken to Pallisa General Hospital in critical condition before being referred to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital, where he tragically passed away.
The case, initially treated as attempted murder, has now been reclassified as murder by the Bukedi North Regional Police. Two individuals have been apprehended to aid in the ongoing investigation. Okonye’s body has been sent to Mbale City Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
