Condoleezza Nakazibwe, who is preparing for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, used the Kenya Aquatics National Swimming Championships held from May 29-31 in Nairobi as a vital preparation event.

Competing for her club, Gators, Nakazibwe participated in eight individual events and three relays. This competition followed her performance at the World Para Swimming Series in Italy earlier this year, where her results earned her a bipartite slot for the Commonwealth Games.

The 13-year-old swimmer, who lost her lower left arm in a 2019 accident, competed against able-bodied swimmers and remained close to her personal best times. “I believe after this competition that I am in the right place to give my best in Glasgow. The competition has given me a way to set my times and cut them,” Nakazibwe stated.

Her coach, Muzafaru Muwanguzi, emphasized the developmental aspect of Nakazibwe’s journey, noting her participation in the competitive S9 para-swimming class. “Condoleezza is still a little girl and she is still learning a lot. We need to set our goals right for the Commonwealth Games,” he commented.

In addition to her athletic pursuits, Nakazibwe has become a brand ambassador for swimwear manufacturer Taupoc, a role she believes will boost her confidence and performance. She competed in the 200m IM, 200m and 50m butterfly, 200m and 50m breaststroke, 50m backstroke, and both 100m and 50m freestyle.

Nakazibwe also contributed to Gators’ third-place finishes in three mixed relays: the 4x50m freestyle, 4x50m medley, and 4x100m medley. The club itself had a strong showing, finishing fourth overall out of 81 clubs with a total of 133.5 points, including five gold, 14 silver, and 10 bronze medals.
