President Yoweri Museveni officially opened the first session of the current Parliament by delivering the highly anticipated State of the Nation Address. This significant address, mandated by Article 101 (1) of the Constitution, serves as a cornerstone for outlining the government’s progress and future plans to the legislature and the Ugandan populace.

The proceedings took place at the Kololo National Ceremonial Grounds, commencing in the afternoon. This year’s address holds particular importance as it initiates the first term for both the President and the current parliamentary body.

Adherence to public health guidelines was a key consideration for this year’s event. To mitigate the spread of the Ebola Virus Disease, attendance was strictly limited to Members of Parliament, essential parliamentary staff, and a select number of invited guests. This careful approach ensured the safety of all involved while still allowing for the vital constitutional address to proceed.

For citizens unable to attend in person, arrangements were made to ensure broad accessibility. The State of the Nation Address was broadcast live across a range of selected radio and television stations, as well as through various online platforms, allowing the entire country to engage with the President’s message. The address covered critical national issues and set the agenda for the coming period.
