As the United States prepares to inaugurate the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library, Uganda is poised to capitalize on this event to promote its tourism sector and signature coffee products. With the library anticipated to draw thousands of visitors and attract sustained international attention, Uganda sees a chance to connect its rich history, particularly President Theodore Roosevelt’s 1909-1910 African expedition, with modern trade and tourism opportunities.

The library’s opening is expected to convene a diverse group of influential figures, including political leaders, business executives, conservationists, and media representatives. This gathering provides a prime setting for Uganda to showcase its diverse tourist attractions, such as Murchison Falls National Park and Ajai Wildlife Reserve, along with its cultural heritage sites located in regions Roosevelt visited.

The Roosevelt Africa Trail initiative aims to transform these historical links into a tangible platform for economic engagement. By associating well-known destinations and products with Roosevelt’s celebrated legacy, Uganda hopes to attract a segment of visitors interested in history, wildlife, and conservation.

Beyond tourism, Uganda’s coffee industry is set to benefit. The “Roosevelt Africa Safari Coffee” brand, inspired by Roosevelt’s travels and Uganda’s coffee heritage, is being developed for distribution across the US. This initiative aims to simultaneously introduce American consumers to Ugandan coffee and its travel destinations, fostering a reciprocal relationship between commerce and tourism.

This push aligns with Uganda’s broader “Trade Over Aid” agenda, emphasizing sustainable economic growth through trade and private sector partnerships. The visibility gained from events like the Harvard Business School Africa Business Conference and planned media projects will further amplify Uganda’s efforts to attract investment and expand market access. The Roosevelt Africa Trail is envisioned as a long-term platform to generate tourism demand and boost exports by connecting historical expedition sites with contemporary economic opportunities.
