Uganda is embarking on an ambitious campaign to capture a larger share of the European tourism market, with a specific focus on Germany. The country has launched a multi-pronged strategy that includes a dedicated tourism roadshow in Düsseldorf and culminating in its first-ever cultural and tourism festival in Munich.

Officials from the Ugandan Embassy in Berlin, working alongside the Uganda Tourism Board, engaged with German tour operators and travel agents. The discussions highlighted Uganda’s unique offerings, such as unparalleled gorilla trekking experiences, diverse wildlife safaris, and the compelling “Pearl of Africa” brand.

Germany represents a significant source of international visitors for Uganda, ranking among its top seven markets. While European arrivals are currently a smaller segment, they are considered strategically vital for growth. This promotional push seeks to convert this potential into tangible visitor numbers.

The cultural diplomacy week features not only business-to-business meetings but also a vibrant cultural festival in Munich. This three-day event showcases traditional Ugandan dance, music, fashion, and cuisine, aiming to immerse potential visitors in the nation’s rich heritage. An accompanying business and investment forum will also foster connections with the Ugandan diaspora and German businesses.

This concerted effort follows Uganda’s participation in the ITB Berlin, the world’s largest travel trade fair, and precedes the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which Uganda will co-host. Officials anticipate that these high-profile events will significantly elevate Uganda’s profile across Europe.

The Ugandan tourism sector is on a strong recovery trajectory post-pandemic, contributing significantly to the national economy and projecting a substantial increase in arrivals in the coming years.
