Following weeks of intense speculation surrounding the health and whereabouts of former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among, a delegation of elders from the Teso Chiefdom paid her a visit. Led by Paramount Chief His Royal Highness Papa Emorimor Paul Sande Etomeileng Emolot, the delegation met with Among at her residence on Sunday.

According to Emorimor, the elders came as a ‘family’ to ascertain Among’s condition firsthand, countering the “many reports” circulating on social media. He stated that while Among is managing hypertension and diabetes, the elders found her “generally in good condition” and receiving treatment.

The visit also served to reassure the Teso community, where Among remains a prominent figure. Emorimor expressed gratitude to President Yoweri Museveni for permitting the delegation’s visit and commended security agencies for maintaining order. He appealed to the President for an audience with the Teso leadership to discuss the matter, emphasizing the importance of dialogue to ease tensions while allowing investigations to proceed.

“We support the investigations that are ongoing. Let the law take its course so that a fair and just decision is reached, but we also request space for dialogue so that the concerns of our people can be addressed,” Emorimor stated.

Senior Teso Chiefdom elder Christine Amongin Aporu echoed these sentiments, confirming that Among welcomed the delegation warmly. She noted that the developments have surprisingly fostered greater unity among Teso leaders, uniting political figures, local officials, elders, and the Teso Parliamentary Group.

The delegation urged the people of Teso to remain peaceful and patient, conveying greetings from Among to her constituents. The visit concluded with a unified call for restraint and unity as legal processes continue.
