President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni presided over the inaugural Cabinet meeting for his newly formed government on Monday, June 29, 2026. This session signifies the official commencement of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) administration’s development agenda for the 2026-2031 term.
The meeting’s convening comes after the recent swearing-in of the new administration on June 8, 2026, and a subsequent 10-day intensive Cabinet Induction Retreat. Held at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi and opened by President Museveni on June 15, the retreat focused on familiarizing ministers, both new and returning, with the government’s core priorities, leadership ethics, and overall strategic direction.
This foundational meeting brought together key figures of Uganda’s leadership. Vice President Jessica Alupo, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, Deputy Prime Ministers, and the Government Chief Whip, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, were all in attendance, alongside other Cabinet and State Ministers. Senior government officials, including the NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong and various Permanent Secretaries, also participated.
The 83-member Cabinet, operating under Article 111 of the Ugandan Constitution, is constitutionally mandated to implement government programs and drive the administration’s objectives over the next five years. The successful transition and subsequent meeting underscore the government’s commitment to effective governance and national development.
