The National Unity Platform (NUP) is actively encouraging young people in Buikwe District to actively participate in the forthcoming Local Council 1 (LC1) elections. NUP Secretary General, Lewis Rubongoya, stressed that these village-level polls are fundamental for strengthening the party’s foundation and extending its reach.

During a mobilization event in Buikwe, Rubongoya urged the youth to remain involved throughout the entire electoral process, from voter registration to the final ballot count. He noted a tendency for young people to disengage after initial election phases, allowing others to make decisions on their behalf.

Rubongoya also issued a caution against alcohol consumption on election day, warning that it could impair the youth’s ability to participate effectively. NUP has set an ambitious target of securing a presence in up to 90 percent of Buikwe’s over 400 villages and encouraged women to step forward as candidates for women council positions.

Supporting these initiatives, Buikwe South MP Jimmy Kanaabi pledged his backing for young aspirants, urging them to recognize and utilize their leadership potential. He emphasized that age and appearance are secondary to determination in leadership.

NUP’s District Chairperson, George Waswa, stated that the party has begun nurturing potential leaders without fostering internal disagreements. Njeru Municipality MP Moses Lukanga echoed the call for early political involvement, asserting that leadership development commences at the village level.

NUP Acting President, Dr. Lina Zedriga Waru, was also present, thanking the residents for their support and announcing that Buikwe will be the venue for the party’s main welcome rally for President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu upon his return from the United States.
