For the residents of Busimbi-Kasimbi Village in Mityana, access to clean water and adequate sanitation has transformed from a distant dream into a tangible reality. The Hemba Africa Foundation has officially commissioned a new clean water project, bringing much-needed relief after years of struggle with water scarcity and poor hygiene.

This vital initiative extends beyond just providing drinking water. The foundation has also invested in modern toilet facilities at the local Salvation Christian School. This endeavor aims to create a healthier learning environment for students and staff, significantly reducing the risk of waterborne diseases and improving overall hygiene standards.

Adome Francis Lorika, the Guest of Honour at the commissioning ceremony, emphasized the critical nature of clean water access, highlighting it as a fundamental necessity, not a luxury. He pointed out that the lack of clean water detrimentally affects health, education, and livelihoods, often leading to children missing school due to water collection duties and increased vulnerability to preventable illnesses.

Lorika commended the Hemba Africa Foundation for their commitment to underserved communities, noting that such partnerships are crucial in supplementing government efforts. He urged the residents to take ownership and responsibility for maintaining the new facilities, ensuring their long-term sustainability.

The new water source is expected to have a multifaceted impact, providing safe drinking water, supporting small-scale agricultural activities, and promoting better hygiene practices. Beneficiaries like Joseph Robert Kagwa expressed profound gratitude, sharing stories of arduous journeys to distant and often unsafe water sources.

Michael Simbwa, proprietor of Salvation Christian School, echoed the sentiment, stating that the improved sanitation facilities have dramatically enhanced the school’s learning environment, offering pupils a healthier space to thrive. The community has pledged to collaborate in preserving these essential resources for future generations.

This intervention underscores the vital role of NGOs and community partnerships in addressing critical service delivery gaps, particularly in water access and sanitation infrastructure across Uganda.
