The treason case involving former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has been adjourned due to his continued hospitalization. Lukwago, who is currently admitted at Mulago National Referral Hospital, was unable to appear before Chief Magistrate Sarah Basemera on Monday.

Prison authorities notified the court that Lukwago is undergoing further medical investigations and treatment. His lawyer, Medard Lubega Sseggona, and his wife recently visited him and confirmed his continued poor health, advising that he remain under medical care.

Based on this information, Chief Magistrate Basemera granted the adjournment, extending the proceedings to July 7, 2026, to allow police investigations to progress.

Lukwago was transferred to Mulago hospital from Luzira Prison on June 25, 2026, after the Makindye Chief Magistrate’s court ordered specialized medical attention for his deteriorating health while on remand. Earlier, the court had denied him bail but mandated a comprehensive medical examination and treatment at Mulago.

He is accused of misprision of treason, with prosecution alleging he failed to report a plot to overthrow the government by his clients between 2021 and November 2024. Lukwago has cited health issues including hypertension, gastritis, respiratory problems, and a spinal condition.
