President Yoweri Museveni has officially commenced his seventh term by chairing the inaugural meeting of his 78-member Cabinet. This session, held on June 29, 2026, marks the official start of implementing the National Resistance Movement (NRM) administration’s agenda for the 2026-2031 period.

The meeting followed a 10-day Cabinet Induction Retreat at the National Leadership Institute (NALI), Kyankwanzi, where ministers were oriented on government priorities, leadership ethics, and the administration’s strategic direction. The NRM’s manifesto for this term, themed ‘Protecting the gains as we make a qualitative leap into a high middle-income status,’ centers on seven key pillars.

These pillars include advancing infrastructure, fostering job creation, developing markets, enhancing service delivery in health, education, and security, and ensuring unity and political stability. This aligns with the ambitious tenfold growth strategy launched in 2023, aiming to elevate Uganda’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from approximately $50 billion to $500 billion by 2040.

To achieve this significant economic expansion, the government is prioritizing four key sectors: Agro-industrialisation, Tourism, Minerals, and Science/Technology innovation (ATMS). This focus is reflected in the fourth National Development Plan (NDPIV) and the recently presented Shs84.3 trillion budget.

The inaugural Cabinet meeting brought together top government officials, including Vice President Rtd Jessica Alupo and Prime Minister Robinah Nabanja, alongside Deputy Prime Ministers, the Government Chief Whip, Cabinet and State Ministers, and other senior government figures. The gathering underscored the collective commitment to steering the nation’s development agenda.
