Boy, 3, Rescued Alive After Six Days Under Venezuelan Earthquake Rubble

In an astonishing display of resilience, a three-year-old boy named Klieber Morán has been rescued from beneath the rubble six days after devastating earthquakes hit Venezuela. The child was found in La Guaira state, a region heavily impacted by the tremors.

Interim President Delcy Rodríguez hailed the rescue as a “source of hope for our people.” A Jordanian rescue team provided initial first aid and transported Klieber to a hospital in the capital, Caracas, where his vital signs were reported to be good.

This incredible survival story comes at a time when the scale of the disaster is becoming increasingly clear. The earthquakes, with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, have resulted in over 1,900 confirmed deaths and more than 10,000 injuries. An initial assessment by NASA suggests that nearly 59,000 buildings may have been damaged or destroyed.

The UN has issued urgent warnings about the humanitarian crisis unfolding, with tens of thousands in desperate need of food and shelter. Basic services have broken down in many areas, and communications remain severely disrupted. The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) has requested an initial $15 million to provide essential aid and temporary shelter.

The World Health Organization (WHO) also expressed concern over the immense strain on health services, highlighting an increased risk of disease outbreaks due to damaged infrastructure and reduced vaccination coverage.
