Brig. Gen. Kayanja Lauds Outgoing Deputy for AUSSOM Mission Success

Brigadier General Jackson Kayanja, leading the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) contingent under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), has publicly acknowledged the exceptional service of the outgoing Deputy Contingent Commander, Colonel Francis Obita Aragamoi. Brig. Gen. Kayanja highlighted Colonel Aragamoi’s leadership, dedication, and professionalism as key factors in the mission’s achievements.
During the official handover ceremony, Brig. Gen. Kayanja particularly credited Colonel Aragamoi for his instrumental role in the execution of critical operations. These included Operations Silent Storm, Hidden Sword, and Rolling Thunder, which were significant in liberating and stabilizing key areas such as Sabiid-Anole, Barrire, Awadglee, Mubarak, Durasalaam, Jerib, and Danane.
“Col Aragamoi has performed exceptionally well during his tenure as Deputy Contingent Commander. His leadership in Operations Silent Storm, Hidden Sword and Rolling Thunder greatly contributed to the mission’s success. He has been hardworking, dedicated and cooperative,” stated Brig. Gen. Kayanja, emphasizing the positive impact of the UPDF contingent’s efforts.
The Contingent Commander also extended a warm welcome to the new Deputy Contingent Commander, Colonel Jude Rukubya. Brig. Gen. Kayanja expressed confidence that Colonel Rukubya’s experience would further enhance the contingent’s capacity to fulfill its mandate.
Colonel Rukubya, in his acceptance speech, pledged to build upon the successes of his predecessor, focusing on teamwork, discipline, and professionalism to support the AU’s objectives for lasting peace in Somalia. Colonel Aragamoi, in his farewell remarks, conveyed his gratitude to the UPDF leadership for the opportunity to serve.
The ceremony also saw a change in the Contingent Operations Officer role, with Lieutenant Colonel Garvas Kabagambe handing over to Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Tibenda Uma Savimbi.
