Kabale Catholic Diocese has initiated a crucial phase in its preparation for the 2026 ordinations, a process that involves the entire Christian faithful. In accordance with Canon 1043 of the New Code of Canon Law, the Diocese is publishing the banns for candidates aspiring to receive Sacred Orders. This ancient practice compels anyone aware of impediments that would disqualify a candidate from ordination to bring this information to the attention of the Ordinary or the Parish Priest.
A directive issued by Bishop’s Secretary, Rev. Fr. Placid Mugumya, on June 30, 2026, instructs all Parish Priests and Assistant Priests to publicly announce the names of those preparing for ordination within their respective parishes. The Diocese has set a deadline of July 31, 2026, for any submissions regarding the suitability of candidates to be made to the Bishop’s Office.
This year’s ordinations promise to be significant, with 13 deacons scheduled to be elevated to the Holy Order of Priesthood on August 22, 2026, at Rushoroza Cathedral Parish. Additionally, 10 seminarians will be ordained to the Holy Order of Diaconate during the same ceremony.
This period also includes other significant steps in the vocational journey. On August 2, 2026, at Rushoroza Cathedral Parish, two seminarians will be admitted as Candidates for the Major Orders. On the same day, 20 seminarians will be installed into the ministries of Lector and Acolyte, marking further progress in their formation.
The Diocese concluded its statement with a prayer for the candidates, seeking divine guidance as they prepare to embrace their forthcoming ministries. The faithful are encouraged to participate in this discernment process, ensuring the integrity of those moving into ordained service.
