The National Unity Platform (NUP) has officially unveiled its strategic roadmap for the impending Local Council (LC) and Women’s Council elections. The party is now actively encouraging eligible Ugandans to engage with the Electoral Commission’s voter register update exercise, emphasizing the importance of ensuring their details are current and accurate for participation.

During the roadmap launch, Harriet Chemutai, a member of NUP’s Electoral Management Committee, expressed the party’s readiness for the electoral process. She acknowledged potential delays in the official election schedule but asserted NUP’s preparedness, stating, “They have been playing with us, thinking we would not be prepared, but we are telling you that we are always prepared.”

Chemutai highlighted the Electoral Commission’s issued guidelines, including a crucial voter register verification and update period commencing on July 6th. She issued a direct appeal to all eligible voters, particularly those who have recently moved or have never registered before, to utilize this window.

“I want to urge Ugandans that you have to register before you participate in this election,” she stated. “Those who need fresh registration should do so. Do not assume that because you are registered elsewhere, you will automatically be able to vote where you currently reside.”

This push for registration is deemed vital by NUP to guarantee that all eligible citizens are accurately listed on the electoral roll, enabling them to select their local leaders. The unveiling of NUP’s roadmap marks the commencement of their internal preparations, including supporter mobilization and candidate identification, ahead of the Electoral Commission’s formal election timeline.

This initiative by NUP comes as the Electoral Commission itself announced its roadmap, which also features voter register verification and update activities aimed at producing a reliable voters’ register.
