Irene Nampala, the National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate for the Kalangala District Woman Member of Parliament seat, has publicly rejected the officially declared election results, asserting that she is the rightful victor.
Speaking at the NUP party headquarters, Nampala expressed profound gratitude to her supporters and the residents of Kalangala for their backing during the campaign period. She particularly acknowledged the efforts of those who campaigned across the district’s numerous islands.
“I know you voted for me in large numbers, and I know I won the election,” Nampala stated, thanking everyone involved in her campaign. She contends that the official tally announced does not accurately represent the electorate’s will.
Nampala directly accused electoral authorities of manipulating the outcome, claiming, “We did not lose. They robbed our votes.” Despite this strong accusation and her rejection of the results, she stopped short of providing specific evidence to substantiate the vote theft allegations.
She urged her supporters to maintain their resolve and continue pursuing their political aspirations through peaceful and legal channels. “Keep fighting, people. We know what we want,” she encouraged, advising them not to lose hope.
The Kalangala District Woman MP by-election had drawn considerable attention due to the participation of several prominent political parties. Nampala’s strong reaction signals a deep dissatisfaction with the declared outcome and highlights her conviction that the electoral process failed to reflect the voters’ true choice.
