Airtel Uganda is set to transform its product and service distribution across the nation through a strategic partnership with Spiro, a prominent provider of electric mobility solutions. The initiative involves equipping Airtel’s franchise partners with brand-new Spiro electric motorcycles.
This collaboration is designed to enhance operational efficiency, significantly lower overheads for franchise partners, and contribute to environmental sustainability by eliminating emissions from the last-mile delivery of Airtel’s offerings. Franchise partners are integral to Airtel’s operations, ensuring widespread access to SIM cards, Airtel Money float, and other services.
Under the new agreement, interested franchise partners can acquire these electric motorcycles through an accessible, interest-free repayment plan. The cost will be deducted in installments directly from their monthly commissions over a 24-month period. This phased rollout has already begun, with an initial batch of 268 electric motorcycles dispatched, forming part of a larger order exceeding 1,000 units.
Japhet Aritho, Managing Director of Airtel Mobile Commerce Uganda Limited, highlighted the partnership as a reflection of Airtel’s dedication to responsible business practices and environmental stewardship. He emphasized that as Airtel expands, so does its responsibility to ensure faster, more efficient, and eco-friendly service delivery, with franchise partners at the core of this investment.
Brenden Kachenje, Spiro Uganda Country Director, praised Airtel for embracing electric vehicles as part of corporate sustainability strategies. Spiro remains committed to advancing Uganda’s e-mobility agenda, with ambitious plans to deploy 50,000 electric motorcycles by the end of 2026.
The adoption of electric motorcycles is expected to lead to substantial reductions in operating expenses for franchise partners and a decrease in carbon emissions. This move also aligns with Airtel Uganda’s broader sustainability goals, modernizing its distribution network and empowering entrepreneurs who connect millions of Ugandans to digital and financial services.
