Buganda Kingdom has officially presented the eagerly anticipated contestants for the Miss Tourism Buganda 2026 pageant. This unveiling marks the commencement of an intensive two-week residential training program for the participants, who will be vying for the coveted crown.
The annual event, orchestrated by the Buganda Heritage and Tourism Board, aims to spotlight and promote the rich cultural heritage, traditions, and tourism potential of the kingdom. Contestants represent various counties (Masaza) within Buganda.
During the launch ceremony, Israel Kazibwe Kitooke, the Kingdom’s Minister for Information and Mobilisation, addressed the contestants. He stressed that the competition transcends physical appearance, urging them to develop deep knowledge of Buganda’s history, culture, and tourism spots to become effective ambassadors.
“You must be intelligent and knowledgeable. You should be able to answer questions confidently,” Kazibwe advised, adding that practical skills like cooking are also valued, referencing traditional expectations in marriage.
He encouraged the contestants to immerse themselves in Buganda’s extensive history and familiarize themselves with key tourist attractions, such as the Kabaka’s Lake, to effectively promote the kingdom’s heritage and create new opportunities.
Mutumba, Chairperson of the Buganda Council of Clan Heads, urged contestants to take pride in their cultural identity and language, Luganda, recognizing their role in preserving and promoting these values.
Najibu Nsubuga, CEO of the Buganda Heritage and Tourism Board, highlighted the rigorous selection process focused on identifying qualified candidates, particularly from institutions of higher learning. The main sponsor, Peter Muwanguzi of New Destiny Property Services, announced that the winner will receive a surveyed plot of land.
The contestants will undergo extensive mentorship and training in leadership, culture, and tourism promotion during their boot camp before the grand finale.
