Uganda’s Muslim community is in mourning following the untimely death of Sheikh Harunah Emuge, the former Kadhi for Kumi District. Sheikh Emuge passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, after being struck by a speeding vehicle on the Mbale–Soroti Highway in Mbale City, according to the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC).

The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, issued a heartfelt condolence message, recognizing Sheikh Emuge’s passing as a significant loss to the Ummah. He lauded the late Kadhi as a devoted servant of Islam and a fervent advocate for Da’wah (Islamic propagation) across the eastern and northeastern regions of Uganda.

Mufti Mubaje highlighted Sheikh Emuge’s piety, humility, and loyalty, emphasizing his passion for the growth of the Islamic faith. He recalled that Sheikh Emuge personally donated land for the establishment of a community mosque and a school, demonstrating his tangible commitment to community upliftment.

Throughout his life, Sheikh Emuge dedicated himself to serving Islam and bettering Muslim communities through his religious leadership and active participation in development initiatives. Even at the time of his death, he held a respected position as a member of the UMSC Shuurah Council, offering valuable guidance to the organization.

Mufti Mubaje concluded his message with prayers, asking Allah to grant Sheikh Emuge paradise (Jannatul Firdaus) and to provide his family with strength, patience, and unity during this difficult period of grief.

Sheikh Emuge will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to the expansion of Islam, his humble demeanor, and his substantial contributions to Muslim education and worship through the founding of vital community institutions.
