Uganda is mourning the loss of Perez Tenywa Bukumunhe, a distinguished figure who served as the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda. Bukumunhe passed away, leaving behind a notable legacy in the country’s financial sector, public administration, political landscape, and literary contributions.
His tenure at the central bank, from 1986 to 1990, was a critical period for Uganda as it navigated post-war economic recovery and implemented significant structural adjustment reforms. Bukumunhe played a key role in these efforts to stabilize the nation’s economy.
Following his service at the Bank of Uganda, Bukumunhe transitioned into public service and politics. He was a candidate for the 1994 Constituent Assembly, which was tasked with drafting Uganda’s current constitution. He later retired from his role as chairman of the Uganda Coffee Development Authority, contributing to the agricultural sector.
Beyond his public service, Bukumunhe was also an accomplished author. His written works explored themes of economics, governance, and national development, earning him recognition beyond the confines of the banking industry.
