Gulu University Bus, Lorry Collision Injures 17 Near Lira

Seventeen individuals sustained injuries following a collision between a Gulu University bus and a Fuso lorry along the Lira–Aduku highway. The incident took place at Bongcao Centre in Lira City West Division on Saturday evening.

According to North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the crash occurred around 8:00 PM. The Fuso lorry, registered as UBK 662J, was reportedly traveling at high speed from Aduku Market towards Lira City, carrying market vendors.

The Gulu University bus, identified by registration number UAK 482G, was reportedly joining the main highway from a feeder road. The bus had been transporting passengers from a traditional marriage ceremony in Boke Ward, Lira City, and was returning when it entered the path of the oncoming lorry.

Police confirmed that all 17 injured individuals were promptly transported to Lira Regional Referral Hospital and Lira Midtown Clinic for medical evaluation and treatment. Their conditions are currently being monitored.

Traffic officers and police personnel from Lira City West Division responded to the scene. Both damaged vehicles have been towed to the division’s parking yard for further inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles (IOV). Investigations into the precise cause of the accident are ongoing, with police urging all motorists to exercise increased caution on the roads, especially at busy junctions.
