The Ministry of Local Government is set to roll out an ambitious national campaign targeting corruption within local government structures. The program, designed to “Expose and Fight Corrupt Officials in Local Governments,” will officially launch in Bulambuli District during a three-day intensive exercise.
Scheduled to take place from July 8th to July 10th, 2026, the campaign’s kickoff event aims to foster greater transparency and accountability in public service delivery. A letter from the Minister of Local Government, Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, communicated the plan to district leadership, urging thorough preparations.
President Museveni is expected to grace the occasion as the chief guest, underscoring the high-level importance placed on this anti-corruption drive. The minister’s directive signals a firm commitment from the presidency to tackle graft at the grassroots level.
The initial two days of the Bulambuli visit will involve a comprehensive inspection of government programs and projects implemented over the past three years. This will be followed on the final day by a public accountability forum, a key component of the campaign designed to directly engage citizens.
This forum, scheduled for July 10th at the Bulegeni District Farm Institute, will provide a platform for leaders and residents to discuss service delivery and the proper management of public resources. The campaign aligns with the Ministry’s broader mandate to support and coordinate effective, sustainable services from local governments, fostering democratic and accountable systems.
