Canon Betty Ogwang has officially stepped into the role of President for the Inner Wheel Club of Kampala, marking the beginning of her 2026-2027 term. In her inaugural address, Ogwang expressed profound gratitude for the trust placed in her by the Inner Wheel District 900, embracing the presidency as both an honor and a significant responsibility.
Her overarching theme for the year, “Grow and Flourish,” will steer the club’s efforts towards three core objectives: invigorating membership, cultivating stronger bonds of friendship among members, and extending the reach of their community service initiatives.
Ogwang emphasized the critical role of friendship as the bedrock of the organization’s growth, drawing an analogy to a tree requiring robust roots. “A club cannot grow without members and friends. This year, we intend to root ourselves deeper in friendship while actively recruiting and mentoring new members who will help us flourish for years to come,” she stated.
Acknowledging the foundational work of her predecessor, President Harriet, who oversaw the establishment of two new clubs, Ogwang noted the consequent reduction in Kampala’s active membership. This highlights the renewed focus on recruitment and retention.
Community service remains a cornerstone of the club’s mission. Key priorities include ongoing support for the elderly at Bakateyamba Home of the Elderly, ensuring they experience dignity and care in their later years. Additionally, the club aims to enhance maternal healthcare by equipping a maternity center to promote safer childbirth.
The club will also continue its outreach to disadvantaged children and maintain regular donations to compassion ministries, underscoring a commitment to multifaceted community support.
Ogwang concluded her remarks with a call to action, urging members to contribute their time, ideas, and prayers to ensure the success of the club’s endeavors. She formally introduced her executive committee, poised to support the implementation of these ambitious plans for the year ahead.
