The Rt. Rev. Callist Rubaramira, Bishop of Kabale Diocese, recently consecrated the new Christ the King Parish Church in Rukungiri District. The dedication marks a significant milestone, bringing to a close a nearly two-decade-long construction effort undertaken by the parish community.

The ceremony, which also coincided with the parish’s 20th anniversary since its founding in 2006, saw the bishop bless the edifice and formally designate it as a sacred space for worship. During the rite, the altar was anointed with Sacred Chrism, signifying the church’s dedication to God for congregational gatherings and spiritual growth.

In his homily, Bishop Rubaramira exhorted the faithful to maintain a strong connection with Jesus Christ, emphasizing that a fulfilling Christian life is cultivated through this relationship. He likened the church to the biblical Tent of Meeting, a place where divine presence is manifested, and where congregants can encounter Christ, particularly in the Eucharist.

Further highlighting the spiritual significance, the bishop confirmed 229 candidates, urging them to remain steadfast in their faith and actively bear witness to Christ. He also expressed gratitude to parishioners, benefactors, and supporters whose contributions made the church’s completion possible.

Parish representatives shared updates on the parish’s extensive outreach, including educational institutions and a thriving SACCO. Future plans include land surveying, building a new presbytery, and bolstering lay apostolate movements to enhance evangelization efforts.

The event also honored six priests who have served the parish since its inception. The North Kigezi Diocese Bishop, Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, who was present, called for unity and interdenominational harmony, urging believers to foster reconciliation and respect to strengthen communities and advance the Gospel.
