President Yoweri Museveni has extended praise to the Seventh-day Adventist Church for its vital role in Uganda’s progress, emphasizing the church’s significant investments in education, healthcare, and community development.
The President’s message was conveyed by Second Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Crispus Kiyonga, at the installation ceremony for the new West Buganda Field Bishop, Godfrey Lubwama. The event, held in Mityana, drew a large congregation of church members, religious leaders, government officials, and cultural representatives.
Museveni highlighted that the church’s initiatives act as crucial complements to government efforts in enhancing the livelihoods of Ugandans. “The Seventh-day Adventist Church has played a significant role in supporting national development through education, healthcare and community service. Government appreciates these efforts because they directly improve the lives of our people,” read the President’s statement.
Furthermore, the President urged religious leaders to actively guide their followers toward economic self-sufficiency. He stressed the importance of integrating faith with practical wealth creation strategies, such as commercial agriculture and other income-generating activities, as a means to alleviate poverty and foster self-reliance within communities.
In his acceptance speech, Bishop Lubwama pledged his commitment to fostering unity within the church and enhancing collaborative efforts in both evangelism and community development. The ceremony was attended by senior church figures, including Archbishop Samuel Kajoba, alongside government and Buganda Kingdom representatives, who all underscored the importance of integrity and accountability in leadership for national advancement and stronger faith-government partnerships in service delivery.
