The NRM Parliamentary Caucus has finalized its candidates for the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) by electing Stella Kiryowa and Fred Bangimya. This internal selection process took place at the Office of the President and sets the stage for their potential representation in the regional body.
Kiryowa and Bangimya will now require formal approval from the wider Parliament to secure their seats. They are slated to succeed James Kakooza and Denis Namara, who both stepped down from EALA after being elected to Uganda’s 12th Parliament.
In addition to the EALA nominations, the caucus also conducted elections for its internal leadership positions. Isaac Otimgiw was chosen as the Vice Chairperson, Brenda Namukuta will serve as General Secretary, Grania Hope Nakazibwe takes on the role of Treasurer, and Derrick Orone was elected Publicity Secretary.
These elections underscore the NRM’s efforts to solidify its parliamentary structures and representation as the 12th Parliament commences its term. The selection of EALA representatives and the caucus executive team are seen as crucial steps in strengthening the party’s influence both domestically and within the East African Community. Kiryowa brings experience from her work within the President’s Office.
