The UPDF Engineering Brigade has officially begun the construction of a new Health Centre IV, a substantial investment valued at Shs3.7 billion, in Kashunga Village, Lwemiyaga Sub-county, Sembabule District.
This facility is poised to transform healthcare access for approximately 30,000 people in the region. It is designed to offer a comprehensive range of services, including crucial maternal and child healthcare, emergency medical interventions, and laboratory diagnostics, filling a long-standing gap in local medical provisions.
Officials from the UPDF Engineering Brigade have assured the community of timely completion and high-quality construction. Corporal Wokola Asiimwe stated, “We are committed to delivering this project on schedule. Our team will ensure that the construction is completed to the required standard so that the people of Lwemiyaga can begin benefiting from improved healthcare services as soon as possible.”
Local leaders, including Lwemiyaga County MP Emmanuel Rwashande, have welcomed the development, emphasizing its potential to alleviate the struggles residents have faced with inadequate healthcare. Rwashande urged the community to cooperate with the engineers to ensure the project progresses smoothly.
Residents expressed relief and optimism, citing the end of arduous journeys to distant towns like Rushere, Mubende, Masaka, and Lyantonde for medical attention. The new Health Centre IV is expected to bring essential and life-saving services closer to home, benefiting mothers, children, and the wider community.
Once operational, the Health Centre IV will significantly strengthen healthcare delivery in a previously underserved area of Sembabule District, reducing travel burdens and improving overall health outcomes for thousands.
