Hundreds of Catholics converged at the Queen of Peace Shrine in Kasozi, Rakai District, to commemorate the seventh anniversary of Bishop Serverus Jjumba’s leadership in the Masaka Diocese. Bishop Jjumba, installed on July 6, 2019, has guided the diocese, succeeding the late Bishop John Baptist Kaggwa.
During a solemn thanksgiving Mass, presided over by Bishop Jjumba himself, the homily was delivered by Rev. Fr. Frederick Kigundu. He lauded the bishop’s work in strengthening evangelization within parishes and schools, and his dedication to various community development initiatives, including agriculture, health, education, and environmental conservation.
“His leadership has inspired both the clergy and the faithful to serve with dedication,” stated Fr. Kigundu, emphasizing the bishop’s role in sustaining God’s people through faith and service.
In a gesture of support for future clergy, Bishop Jjumba awarded academic and pastoral scholarships to eleven seminarians. He also initiated a prayer campaign for the beatification of Msgr. Aloysius Ngobya and Sister Amedeo Byabali, calling on Christians, particularly the youth, to commit to prayer and uphold Church teachings.
Local leaders, including Nyendo-Mukungwe MP Lubowa Sseggirinya Sebina Gyavira, commended Bishop Jjumba for his advocacy on social justice issues and his support for the vulnerable. The Head of the Laity, Regina Nalubega Kitaka, urged the bishop to continue praying for Uganda, acknowledging the widespread fear and anxiety among citizens.
The celebration brought together government officials, representatives from Buganda Kingdom, Members of Parliament, fellow religious leaders, and a large congregation of the faithful, marking a significant milestone in Bishop Jjumba’s seven-year pastoral journey.
