Vinka Reflects on Motherhood's Demands Amidst Music Stardom

Swangz Avenue artist Vinka has offered a glimpse into the demanding reality of being a mother while maintaining a high-profile music career. In a recent YouTube interview, the singer described the period following the birth of her daughter in early 2021 as a significant adjustment.

Vinka revealed that her breastfeeding journey was cut short at four months due to professional obligations that required her to return to touring. This marked the beginning of a daily effort to harmonize her life as a musician with her role as a parent.

One particularly poignant challenge arose when Vinka had to travel to South Sudan for a pre-booked performance shortly after her daughter’s arrival. Despite the emotional turmoil of leaving her newborn, she explained that cancelling the show was not a viable option. This experience led to introspection and feelings of guilt as she questioned her capacity to be both a dedicated mother and a touring artist.

Explaining her choice not to bring her daughter on tour, Vinka cited the inherently unpredictable nature of her work. She expressed a preference for her child remaining in a stable environment at home, believing that constant travel would be more disruptive than supportive for a young child’s upbringing.

Vinka acknowledges that while balancing these two significant aspects of her life is incredibly difficult, she has gradually adapted to the demands over time. “Balancing is the hardest thing, but with time you get used to it,” she stated.
