The High Court in Iganga has seen the withdrawal of an election petition that challenged the results for the Kigulu South parliamentary constituency. The petition, filed by Badogi Ismail Waguma against Kungu Samuel Bamuteeze and the Electoral Commission, has now been formally closed.
Waguma had initiated Election Petition No. 05 of 2026 seeking to overturn the declared outcome of the polls. However, the legal challenge has been amicably resolved through a mediation process, avoiding a potentially lengthy court battle.
According to the settlement agreement, signed on July 13, 2026, both parties have consented to withdraw the petition entirely. The terms stipulate that each party will bear their own legal costs associated with the case, bringing a conclusion to this electoral dispute.
The agreement was formally endorsed by a High Court judge, marking the official end of the proceedings. The resolution ensures that this particular matter arising from the 2026 parliamentary elections in Iganga is now concluded.
Representatives from Pande Law Advocates, K&K Advocates, and Madaba Advocates, representing the petitioner, Kungu Samuel Bamuteeze, and the Electoral Commission respectively, were involved in formalizing the settlement.
