A dedicated week-long campaign in Copenhagen, Denmark, has successfully enhanced Uganda’s presence in the European market, creating tangible opportunities for local coffee and cocoa producers. The initiative, which ran from June 22 to 28, utilized a prominent space at the Frederiksberg Centret, a high-traffic shopping destination in Copenhagen, to showcase Uganda’s agricultural products, alongside its tourism and cultural offerings.

Exposure extended beyond the shopping center, with “Explore Uganda” branded buses circulating throughout the city, further raising awareness of Uganda as a potential destination for tourism and investment. The Embassy of Uganda in Denmark reported significant interest from shoppers, potential business partners, and investors, with an estimated 155,000 individuals exposed to Ugandan products during the event.

Ambassador Margaret Otteskov highlighted the campaign’s success in demonstrating the power of proactive economic diplomacy. “The campaign demonstrated what focused economic and commercial diplomacy can achieve when an embassy moves beyond traditional diplomatic engagement and takes Uganda directly to consumers, businesses and potential partners,” she stated.

The promotion yielded encouraging results, including repeat interest in Ugandan coffee and chocolate, and established connections with key players in Denmark’s specialty coffee and retail sectors. Several specialty coffee buyers expressed interest in sourcing directly from Ugandan producers, while roasters and retailers are exploring potential future collaborations.

The embassy plans to capitalize on this momentum by assisting Ugandan companies in meeting European market standards and facilitating direct engagement with prospective buyers. This effort is part of a larger strategy to elevate Ugandan coffee to premium status globally and enhance its agricultural export value.
