CoRSU Hospital Launches Third Annual Disability Walk to Raise Shs400M for Children

Comprehensive Rehabilitation Services for People with Disability in Uganda (CoRSU Hospital) has announced the launch of its third annual Disability Walk. This nationwide campaign is geared towards raising Shs400 million, with the goal of providing essential surgical and rehabilitation services to 100 children living with various disabilities.

The charity walk, slated for Sunday, October 4, 2026, at the MUBS Sports Ground, is expected to draw a diverse crowd including government officials, corporate entities, development partners, healthcare professionals, and disability advocates. The event aims to foster a collective effort to enhance access to specialized rehabilitation services and champion disability inclusion across Uganda.

This year’s fundraising target is specifically earmarked for comprehensive surgical and rehabilitation care for 100 children. The average cost for each child, covering surgery, therapy, assistive devices, and follow-up care, is approximately Shs4 million. The initiative also seeks to bolster CoRSU Hospital’s rehabilitation infrastructure, enabling it to assist a larger number of children in need.

The campaign addresses a critical issue in Uganda, where nearly 300 children are placed on surgical waiting lists annually due to insufficient funding for specialized pediatric orthopaedic and rehabilitation services. By reaching its Shs400 million goal, CoRSU aims to decrease the annual backlog of unfunded surgeries by about 33 percent, offering more children the chance for a fuller life.

In its previous iteration in 2025, the CoRSU Disability Walk successfully raised over Shs71 million, facilitating orthopaedic and plastic surgeries for 17 children, rehabilitation services for 21 patients, and specialized medical care for 62 others. CoRSU Hospital, established in 2006, has a significant track record, having performed over 70,000 surgeries and rehabilitated more than 100,000 patients, making it a leading center in East Africa for specialized orthopaedic care.

The launch event was attended by Patrick Menya from the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, who emphasized the nation’s responsibility to care for its most vulnerable citizens and urged Ugandans to support the cause. CoRSU CEO Robert Ochai highlighted the campaign as an investment in Uganda’s future and the well-being of its children, stating that “every contribution made through this campaign translates into a child walking again, returning to school, gaining confidence and living a fuller life.”

Members of the public, corporations, schools, and development partners are encouraged to participate through sponsorships, donations, and team registrations for the upcoming walk. Every action contributes to restoring mobility, dignity, and hope to children with disabilities.
