Mubende Authorities Threaten Legal Action for Skipping National Cleaning Day

Mubende District officials have issued a stern warning to residents, indicating that failure to participate in the newly introduced National Cleaning Day will be met with legal action. The monthly exercise, officially launching on Saturday, July 25th, is part of a national campaign to enhance sanitation standards and curb disease outbreaks associated with poor hygiene.

Deputy Resident District Commissioner Abubaker Birungi emphasized that cleanliness is a collective responsibility. He urged every resident, institution, and business to actively engage in the “Bulungi Bwansi” initiative, stressing its importance not only for maintaining clean surroundings but also for disease prevention and environmental conservation.

Birungi confirmed that stringent monitoring will be in place, with security agencies and local authorities overseeing the exercise’s implementation. He made it clear that no one will be exempt, and individuals deliberately ignoring the presidential directive without a justifiable reason will face the full force of the law.

“This is a directive meant for the benefit of all Ugandans,” Birungi stated, underlining that non-compliance will lead to necessary legal measures.

The initiative has been welcomed by some residents, who hope it will help tackle the persistent garbage management issues plaguing different parts of the district. They have called on their fellow citizens to embrace the cleaning day as a shared duty, rather than solely relying on local authorities.

Despite existing garbage collection contracts, Mubende District continues to grapple with waste management challenges, with uncollected refuse remaining a visible problem in several communities and trading centers.
