Arsenal Fans Combine Faith and Charity at Adjumani Mass

Supporters of Arsenal Football Club in Adjumani District recently gathered for a unique occasion, merging their love for the game with spiritual observance and community engagement. The group animated the Holy Mass at Adjumani Catholic Parish, showcasing a vibrant display of faith and fellowship.

During the service, which was part of the 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Arsenal fans actively participated by leading singing, dancing, and other liturgical activities. Their energetic contributions brought a lively atmosphere to the Mass, which was primarily conducted in English.

Beyond their active role in the service, the supporters demonstrated their commitment to community welfare by donating essential items to the parish. The collection, which included foodstuffs, household goods, and building materials, was valued at Shs2.2 million, aimed at supporting the church’s ongoing activities and its mission.

The main celebrant, Msgr. Felix Drani, who also serves as the Episcopal Vicar for Refugees and Migrants in the Catholic Diocese of Arua, acknowledged the fraternity’s efforts. He praised their dual commitment to God and their community, urging fans to ensure their passion for football complements their faith and positively influences society.

Msgr. Drani emphasized football’s potential as a unifying force globally and encouraged fair play, particularly from referees. The event also served as a platform for local leaders, including Adjumani Resident District Commissioner Swaib Toko, to address community matters. Mr. Toko raised awareness about public health concerns, such as dog bites, and promoted the national cleaning exercise, alongside sensitization on HIV/AIDS and upcoming local elections.

Representing the Arsenal supporters, chairperson Robert Dragule explained their intention was to thank God and seek blessings for their club’s success, particularly a potential Premier League victory. He highlighted the fraternity’s broader purpose, stating that they unite not just for football but also in their faith.

The Adjumani Arsenal Football Club plans to hold a victory party on August 15, 2026, anticipating a successful season. This event underscored the significant role organized fan groups can play in supporting local institutions, fostering community spirit, and promoting peaceful coexistence within Adjumani.
