Suspended Priest Gets 21 Years for Murder of URA Official

Rev. Fr Dominic Alinga, a priest previously suspended from his duties, has received a significant prison sentence of 21 years. He pleaded guilty to the murder of John Bosco Ngorok, a former employee of the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), and the attempted murder of Moses Abigaba.

The sentencing occurred in the High court in Entebbe after Alinga admitted to the charges. The incident leading to the charges took place on August 2, 2024. Prosecutors detailed that Alinga believed Ngorok had revealed information leading to his suspension and lured him to a meeting.

During their travel towards Entebbe, Alinga allegedly attacked and fatally stabbed Ngorok. When Abigaba tried to assist, Alinga is accused of using his vehicle to strike both men before fleeing the scene. Ngorok, aged 30, later died from his injuries.

Alinga reportedly attempted to dispose of evidence and fled to Tororo, where he later confessed to another priest before surrendering to the authorities. He had been in custody for nearly two years awaiting trial. Before pleading guilty, Alinga had maintained he acted in self-defense, claiming Ngorok became violent during a dispute over a land transaction and accidentally stabbed himself.

However, this defense was abandoned when Alinga entered his guilty plea, leading to his conviction and sentencing by Justice Flavia Nabakooza. The court also ordered compensation for Abigaba. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions commended the prosecution and investigative teams for their work in securing the conviction.
