Massive Nonda Coffee Park Set to Revolutionize Uganda's Coffee Sector

Uganda is poised to significantly enhance its coffee industry with the upcoming Nonda Coffee Park, a major agro-industrial development slated for Butalangu Town Council, Nakaseke District. This ambitious project, with an estimated investment of $200 to $248 million, is designed to transform raw coffee beans into high-value, branded export products.

The facility, which will occupy a 100-acre site, is projected to have an impressive annual processing capacity of 42,000 metric tons. This scale aims to position it as the largest single coffee processing plant in the East and Central African region.

The Nonda Coffee Park is a key component of the Great Uganda-Saudi Coffee Corridor initiative. This project, led by Nonda Commodities Limited in collaboration with international partners including Saudi Arabia’s Ingazi Group International, emphasizes value addition within Uganda. The goal is to move beyond exporting raw beans and instead process coffee domestically, thereby capturing a larger share of the global coffee value chain and increasing national revenue.

President Yoweri Museveni has formally pledged government support for the project. This backing is crucial for mobilizing local coffee farming households to increase production and meet the demands of the new processing facility. The government’s commitment, alongside substantial private investment from Saudi Arabia, underscores the project’s significance for Uganda’s economic development and export strategy.

The groundbreaking ceremony is anticipated in October 2026, with project completion expected within two years of commencement. This initiative is set to create numerous job opportunities and strengthen Uganda’s position as a major player in the global coffee market.
