Uganda on Track for First Oil as Key Projects Near Completion

Uganda is making remarkable strides towards its long-anticipated first oil production, with major petroleum projects demonstrating substantial completion as of June 30, 2026. The Tilenga project has reached an impressive 74% completion, having successfully drilled 234 wells, surpassing the required 170 wells for production to commence.

Similarly, the Kingfisher project is not far behind, achieving 79% completion. Key components such as the Central Processing Facility and the associated feeder pipeline are in the final stages of construction.

Further bolstering the nation’s oil sector development, the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) has achieved 90% overall progress. This critical infrastructure project has seen over 1,443 kilometers of pipeline welded, spanning both Uganda and Tanzania, underscoring the regional collaboration in this venture.

In parallel, the Uganda Refinery Project is also moving forward, with pre-Final Investment Decision technical studies reaching 28% completion. These ongoing developments collectively signal a strong momentum towards the commercialization of Uganda’s petroleum resources and the realization of its first oil exports.
