Speaker of Parliament, Markson Jacob Oboth Oboth, has emphasized that effective leadership in Uganda must be inclusive, serving every citizen without discrimination based on political leanings, ethnicity, or religious beliefs. He stated that unity among leaders is crucial for improving service delivery and driving the nation’s development.

Speaking at an interfaith prayer service in Mukono, organized by the Greater Mukono Interfaith Forum, the Speaker underscored the need for leaders to collectively address the needs of all Ugandans. “When we work together in unity, we can deliver better services and improve the lives of our people,” Oboth remarked.

During the event, Speaker Oboth also urged local leaders in Mukono District to prioritize securing land for the construction of a modern hospital. He noted that the current Mukono General Hospital is overburdened by the growing patient numbers, and a new facility would significantly improve healthcare access and alleviate congestion.

The prayer service, the first of its kind in honor of Speaker Oboth since he took office, also saw accolades from other leaders. Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze Bakireke praised Oboth’s commitment to unity and urged Ugandans to reject all forms of discrimination, stating that prosperity hinges on treating every citizen equally.

Bishop Samuel Lwandasa, Chairperson of the Greater Mukono Interfaith Forum, offered prayers for the Speaker, beseeching wisdom and strength for his leadership role. Local leaders also appealed to the Speaker for support in upgrading Mukono’s road infrastructure, which they identified as a significant impediment to development.

The ceremony concluded with Speaker Oboth officially launching the Greater Mukono Interfaith Forum and pledging Shs10 million towards its activities.
