A groundbreaking initiative by the Entebbe Fly Express Travelers Association has seen more than 80 taxi drivers acquire personal land titles. This achievement was made possible through a collective annual savings scheme designed to foster financial discipline and enable investment in tangible assets.
The scheme, launched last year, offered members a choice at the end of the savings cycle: receive their accumulated funds or invest them collectively in land. This innovative approach has allowed drivers to purchase 50x100-foot plots in Namayumba, Wakiso District, without the burden of high-interest loans.
During a recent handover ceremony, beneficiaries received their individual land titles. Association Chairperson Peter Kaggwa highlighted the project as a testament to the power of financial discipline and unity, stating, “Our members trusted the process, remained disciplined in their savings, and today many of them are proud landowners.”
Beneficiaries like Frank Okodit and Ronnie Kilaga shared their joy, describing the initiative as life-changing. They expressed that owning land was once a distant dream, but the association’s program made it a reality.
The land titles were officially handed over by Entebbe Municipality Member of Parliament Shyaka Stephen Gashaija and Mayor Fabrice Rulinda. Both officials lauded the association’s efforts in promoting financial prudence and urged the new landowners to develop their properties wisely and avoid mortgaging them to money lenders.
Mayor Rulinda specifically praised the association’s leadership for maintaining transparency, calling the initiative an exemplary model for other transport associations across Uganda to emulate. The success of this program underscores the potential of organized savings and cooperative investment in enhancing the financial well-being of transport sector workers.
This milestone signifies a significant step forward for the Entebbe Fly Express Travelers Association and highlights the transformative impact of collective action on improving livelihoods in Uganda.
