Tragedy has struck in Namusisi Village, Iganga District, where three members of the same family were discovered deceased under circumstances suggesting a murder-suicide. The victims have been identified as Jamil Wako, his wife, and their child.

According to local authorities, the incident is thought to have occurred on Monday night. It is alleged that Wako first attacked his wife and child before taking his own life. The horrifying discovery was made on Tuesday morning by a customer who noticed the family’s retail shop remained closed.

“The customer noticed that the shop had not opened as usual and heard heavy breathing coming from inside the house,” stated Mr. Baraka Kintu, the area secretary for defence. Alerted residents forced their way into the home, finding Wako critically injured alongside his deceased wife and child. Wako succumbed to his injuries before he could be transported to a hospital.

Initial reports suggest ongoing marital strife was the catalyst for the violence. Sources indicate that Wako had recently accused his wife of an affair with her former husband, which reportedly led to frequent arguments.

Local leaders are urging couples facing difficulties to seek mediation. “As leaders, we are always available to mediate disputes. People should seek guidance from local authorities whenever they face domestic challenges rather than taking the law into their own hands,” advised Mr. Anthony Isabirye, the LC1 chairperson of Namusisi Village.

The Busoga East Regional Police have confirmed receiving reports of the incident and stated that investigations are underway. Domestic violence remains a significant concern in the Busoga sub-region, including Iganga District.
