PLU Seeks Shs 1.5 Billion from Parliament for Muhoozi Book Distribution

The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has approached Parliament with a significant funding request of Shs 1.5 billion. This substantial sum is intended to cover the production and nationwide free distribution of more than 200,000 copies of a book titled “52 Dimensions.”

The publication, developed under the PLU’s umbrella, commemorates the 52nd birthday of General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces. Its central theme, “Resetting the Fact of Default,” draws inspiration from Speaker Jacob Marksons Oboth-Oboth’s campaign for the speakership.

During the book’s official launch in the Speaker’s boardroom, chief editor Kenneth Asiimwe highlighted the theme’s connection to core values such as responsible leadership, integrity, accountability, patriotism, national service, institutional renewal, and the fight against corruption. The book features a diverse range of content, including reflections, analytical perspectives, and tribute messages from various sectors including security, governance, judiciary, education, and civil society.

Asiimwe noted that Parliament itself contributed to the publication through input from the Clerk to Parliament and several legislators. The requested Shs 1.5 billion budget will facilitate the printing and dissemination of the book to educational institutions like schools and universities, public libraries, and youth platforms across Uganda, ensuring broad accessibility for students and young people.

A limited premium edition will be available for purchase by the corporate sector at Shs 100,000 per copy, with proceeds earmarked for the Uganda Childhood Cancer Foundation.

Speaker Oboth-Oboth commended the initiative as an independent effort deserving of support, emphasizing Parliament’s commitment to balanced constitutional mandates. He also stressed that patriotism is a universal value for all Ugandans, not exclusive to any group, and that the PLU unites individuals who share common values like fighting corruption and protecting the nation.
