The Electoral Commission (EC) has laid out the electoral roadmap for the Adjumani West Constituency by-election, with polling scheduled for September 17, 2026. This election is necessary to fill the parliamentary seat left vacant by the death of General (Rtd) Moses Ali.
The official announcement and roadmap unveiling occurred on Monday at the Adjumani District Headquarters, presided over by EC Chairperson Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama. The event gathered key stakeholders, including political leaders, security personnel, aspiring candidates, civil society representatives, religious leaders, and media.
The Electoral Commission has set specific dates for critical pre-election activities. The National Voters Register update and voter transfers will take place from August 5 to August 7, with the register display following from August 17 to August 26. Candidate nominations are slated for September 7 and 8.
Campaigns for the Adjumani West seat will officially run from September 9 to September 15. Additionally, elections for the Female Older Persons Representative for Pachara Sub-county, necessitated by a lack of nominations in the previous general election, will be held on September 16.
Justice Byabakama urged all participants to commit to a peaceful and lawful electoral process, emphasizing the rejection of violence and voter bribery. Local leaders and aspiring candidates present echoed these sentiments, pledging cooperation and advocating for a level playing field and transparency throughout the election.
Security agencies have assured the public of their readiness to ensure a safe and secure environment before, during, and after the election. The EC also detailed further preparations, including training election officials and accrediting observers, aiming for a credible and widely trusted outcome.
