Global music superstar Shakira has expressed her intention to visit Uganda, according to Dauda Kavuma, the founder and dance coach of the celebrated Triplets Ghetto Kids. The group recently returned from performing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals, an opportunity made possible through Shakira’s sponsorship.

Kavuma shared with journalists that Shakira and her team organized an additional performance for the Ghetto Kids at the Barclays Center in New York after their World Cup appearance. It was during this event that Shakira conveyed her plans to visit Uganda to further their working relationship.

However, the journey to the World Cup was not without significant challenges. The group’s travel plans were complicated by an Ebola outbreak in Uganda, which led the US Embassy to temporarily halt visa processing. Shakira’s team faced difficulties securing visas, attempting and failing through Kenya, Mexico, and Colombia before ultimately routing the dancers through Ecuador, where they completed a 21-day quarantine.

Kavuma extended his gratitude to various Ugandan sponsors who provided support during the group’s isolation abroad, including businessman Amos Nzeyi, MTN Uganda, Everyday Biscuits, and the Uganda Tourism Board. Joseph Byaruhanga from Pepsi Cola highlighted Nzeyi’s long-standing support, which began after he witnessed the Ghetto Kids perform at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Nzeyi has reportedly donated Shs100 million towards building the group a permanent home.

Adding to the team’s accolades, the FIFA governing body presented the Ghetto Kids with the official match ball from the 2026 World Cup finals. The troupe intends to use this commemorative ball for exhibition matches across Uganda.
