The Special Forces Command (SFC) recently underwent a significant leadership transition, with Lt. Col. Frank Murema now at the helm of the 16 Service Brigade. The brigade, a crucial component for SFC’s logistical and welfare support, is headquartered in Busambaga, Entebbe.
Lt. Col. Murema’s appointment follows his previous role as Deputy Director of Operations at SFC Headquarters, a position he formally handed over to Lt. Col. A.C. Kaawe. At the 16 Service Brigade, Lt. Col. Murema received command from Lt. Col. Allen Atuhaire, who had been serving in an acting capacity.
During the ceremony, the achievements of the outgoing commander, Col. R.R. Tugume, were highlighted. Under his leadership, the brigade saw the development of modern infrastructure, including storage facilities and fuel reserves, significantly bolstering its logistical capacity. Col. Tugume is now attending a strategic course at the National Defence College.
Maj. Gen. Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru, Commander of the SFC, presided over the handover. He commended Col. Tugume for his service and urged Lt. Col. Murema to build upon the brigade’s successes by emphasizing teamwork, integrity, professionalism, and coordination. Maj. Gen. Nyakikuru stressed the importance of strong leadership and unity for the 16 Service Brigade’s continued contribution to the SFC’s operational effectiveness.
Further appointments were announced, with Lt. Col. Allen Atuhaire named Deputy Brigade Commander. The SFC Commander also lauded Lt. Col. Murema’s previous contributions to SFC operations and encouraged Lt. Col. Kaawe to embrace innovation and modern approaches in his new role as Deputy Director of Operations.
The ceremonies were attended by various senior SFC officials, including Brig. Gen. John Mango Baraza (Chief of Staff) and Hon. Col. Night Ikiriza (Director of Human Resource Management and UPDF representative in Parliament).
