UBOS Deploys 80 Data Collectors for 9th Uganda National Household Survey

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has officially launched the 9th Uganda National Household Survey (UNHS) 2026/27, deploying 80 newly trained data collectors across the country. These individuals have successfully completed a 15-day training program and will be working in 16 teams, each supervised by a team leader.
The deployment strategy emphasizes language proficiency, with teams organized based on regional languages to ensure effective communication with survey respondents and enhance data accuracy. This nationwide initiative is set to span 12 months, covering a wide range of households and communities.
During the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Chris N. Mukiza, the Executive Director of UBOS, urged the data collectors to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct. He stressed the importance of adhering to the Oath of Secrecy and the Oath of Office, emphasizing that all collected information must remain strictly confidential and that no data should be altered from its original submission.
Dr. Mukiza highlighted that the integrity of the survey findings directly impacts the ability of planners and policymakers to make informed decisions aimed at improving the lives of Ugandans. He issued a stern warning against indiscipline and poor performance, noting that substandard work could lead to dismissal and exclusion from future UBOS exercises.
The UNHS is a vital national program that collects comprehensive data on critical areas such as education, health, employment, housing, and food security. Its findings are instrumental in assessing poverty, monitoring household welfare, and guiding evidence-based policy and development strategies. The results from the 8th UNHS were released in May 2025, and this upcoming survey is expected to provide updated statistics crucial for policy formulation and program evaluation.
