The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Wesley Mutebi II, recently visited Maganjo Grain Millers, a company he praised for its significant contributions to Uganda’s economy. His commendation highlighted the company’s success in industrialization, job creation, and agricultural value addition.
Maganjo Grain Millers, located in Maganjo, produces a diverse range of products including maize flour, wheat flour, and animal feed. The company has successfully penetrated both domestic and international markets, exporting to countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada.
The Katikkiro emphasized that Maganjo Grain Millers exemplifies the potential of Ugandan entrepreneurship. He encouraged citizens to invest in productive ventures, particularly in the agricultural sector, which he identified as a crucial driver for economic transformation.
During his address, the Katikkiro outlined key principles for entrepreneurial success: a clear vision, initiative, commitment, patience, teamwork, trust, and innovation. He advised aspiring business owners against waiting for substantial capital, advocating instead for starting small and growing gradually through persistence and effective management.
“Many people today want to start with big investments that they cannot sustain. Starting small allows you to grow through different stages and eventually achieve success,” the Katikkiro stated. He also stressed the importance of adapting to changing times through innovation, warning that businesses that fail to evolve risk being left behind.
The founder of Maganjo Grain Millers, Dr. Benon Lujja, echoed the Katikkiro’s sentiments by calling for increased investment in commercial agriculture, especially maize production. He noted that despite Uganda’s fertile land, the country still relies heavily on imports for raw materials like maize, wheat, and millet, with much of it coming from Tanzania. Dr. Lujja highlighted that the company’s demand for these agricultural products is high, indicating a readily available market for local farmers who embrace commercial farming.
Officials from Buganda Kingdom, including the Minister for Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperatives, and the Kyaddondo County Chief, also commended Maganjo Grain Millers for aligning with the Kingdom’s development agenda by promoting agriculture, improving livelihoods, and creating employment opportunities. The company was recognized for supporting youth employment and contributing to local development initiatives.
