SC Villa has lost its captain, David Owori, to a violent street robbery. The incident occurred on Tuesday night as Owori was returning to his home in Makindye Division, a Kampala suburb.
Sources indicate that a group of assailants attacked Owori near his residence, reportedly striking him with paving stones. After robbing him of his possessions, the attackers left him unconscious. He was initially taken to a local clinic and later transferred to Case Clinic, where he tragically died from his injuries.
Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the attack and stated that investigations are actively underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. “We are currently hunting for the assailants and investigations have started,” Owoyesigyire commented, adding that the motive and specific items stolen are yet to be determined.
SC Villa issued a statement mourning their captain, describing him as a dedicated leader and a significant loss to the club and Ugandan football. The club appealed to law enforcement agencies to swiftly bring those responsible to justice. Owori was a key figure for the team during the 2025/26 season, recognized for his influence both on and off the field.
In a separate incident, the football fraternity is also mourning Rogers Ssebyondya, a forward for Bulemezi County, who died after sustaining severe injuries during a Masaza Cup match. He collided with an opposing goalkeeper and later passed away at Mulago National Referral Hospital.
